Chem – Entropy and States of Matter Part 2

Without looking at an entropy table, are these chemical equations below increasing or decreasing in entropy (Δ S). based on their state?

H2O(s) —> H2O(l)

Answer: Increasing (s —> l)

2 Fe3+(aq) + 3 CO32-(aq) <—-> Fe2(CO3)3(s)

Answer: Decreasing (aq —-> s)

6 Ag(s) + Ca3(PO4)2(s) <——> 3 Ca(aq) + 2 Ag3PO4(s)

Answer: Increasing (s —> aq)

4 CO2(g) <—-> C4(s) + 4 O2(g)

Answer: Decreasing (g —> s)

N2(g) + 3 H2(g) <—-> 2 NH3(g)

Answer: Not increasing or decreasing (g —> g)
